TapDrive is a fast, simple way to initiate one-way or round-trip driving navigation to the places you go the most. A lot of apps are overly complicated. We intentionally made TapDrive simple.

A lot of apps, including the built-in apps from Apple, are packed with features that most people never use. This is unsurprising given the need to service a wide range of users (for Apple’s first-party apps) and the pressure to stand out among the competition (for third-party apps).
But this has gone so far that we believe there is an opportunity to create apps that are designed to be simpler and intentionally do less. Just as there is a thriving market for more-featured versions of many types of apps (e.g., Fantastical vs. Calendar, Bear vs. Notes), might there emerge a market for well-designed, less-featured versions for those users who appreciate simplicity and focus?
Relatedly, for the first time in history, we live in a world with a growing group of users who are relatively old, but who remain tech savvy. Unlike previous generations, today’s 50-, 60-, 70-, even 80-somethings are comfortable in a technological world. (Steve Jobs himself would have been 71 years old this year!) Designing apps only for "young people" is an outdated approach.
TapDrive was inspired by the developer watching his 80-something-year-old father use the Apple Maps app while driving in his car. His father used Apple Maps for navigation, but searched for the same location over and over each time he used the app. TapDrive was created as a simple way to create a list of frequently visited locations, and a very simple (i.e., two tap) method to start navigation.
While the Apple Maps app has built-in support for Recent Locations, Pinned/Favorite Locations, and multi-stop navigation, for many people, including the developer’s father, these “general” solutions aren’t well-suited. Something simpler and more focused is a better fit.
Nicely Made Apps is a small independent app developer creating simple, thoughtfully designed experiences that aim to reconnect us with those things that make us uniquely human.
It was started by Joe Bezdek, a product designer and brand strategist who was the co-founder and brand director of DivX, where he helped grow the grassroots video technology into a publicly-traded company and globally recognized consumer technology brand used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
